"There are many ways to make your triathlon transition a success"



Your triathlon transition can be one of the most rewarding aspects of a race, or one of the biggest failures, depending on how competitive they are.

A triathlon transition is a very important part of the race. Races can be won or lost in the transition area.

I have one word for you... Practice!

Your already swimming, biking and running for your workouts, why stop there?

You should also being practicing your triathlon tranisition.

Make sure you know what it is like to take off a wet wetsuit.

Are you planning to have your biking shoes already on you bike? Running barefoot out of the triathlon transition area before getting on your bike and then putting you feet in the shoes as you ride?

Have your helmet, sunglasses, jersey, etc., ready and easy to get to.

Don't forget to buckle your helmet before you get on the bike or leave the triathlon tranisition area.

When you come in from the bike, park the bike, then unbucle your helmet put on your running shoes, grab everything else and go. Putting everything on, your hat, shirt (with race number) as you leave the tranisition area.

There is a lot of information on the Internet to help anyone, everything from training programs, camps, nutrition tips, and actual blogs from those who went through a particular training program or race.

A blog from a triathelete may be particularly helpful, as we can learn of some of the common mistakes and oversights when making our own training and racing..

But for most, actual training for a triathlon transition will help you avoid difficulties during the race.

Consider Your Equipment for Your Triathlon Transition

Are you swimming in what you plan to wear on the bike and the run? The majority of triathletes are, at least the competitive ones.

What kind of wet suit do you have, a full suit, long johns, etc. Is the water freezing or in the 70's?

Tip... try putting some petroline jelly or even spraying some cooking spray around ankles, wrist and/or sholders.

Your bike shoes - can you attach them to your bike?

Do they have laces to tie or velco.

Running shoes - do they have laces you must tie or are they elasitic laces.
